Dear Group Leader:

Thank you for planning a trip to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park.  We look forward to seeing you and your students during the school year. With more than 1,000 animals residing at the Zoo, wonderful learning opportunities and experiences are in store for visiting school groups.

When planning your school group visit, remember that FALL is the season when the Zoo really comes to life. With smaller crowds, active animals and comfortable temperatures, it's a wonderful time to visit the Zoo!

To make sure your students have the best possible time, it is very important that you please read the bulleted points below. These points will start you on your way to having a fun and enjoyable visit to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo.

VERY IMPORTANT ZOO VISITATION INFORMATION: PLEASE READ BELOW!


RESERVATIONS:

  • Reservations can be made Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please call (315) 435-8511 x 100 for the reservation desk.
  • We recommend that you make your reservation as early as possible because time slots fill up quickly and we cannot guarantee the time you want will be available.
  • You must register in advance with the office in order to secure the group rate. Groups without reservations must pay full admission costs.  Click here for regular zoo admission rates.

GUIDED TOURS:

  • If you would like a guided tour, you must make these arrangements ahead of time through the Zoo's main office. If any group needs to cancel, please call the office 48 hours prior to the scheduled tour to avoid charges.

CONFIRMATIONS:

  • A confirmation packet will be sent to you three weeks before the date of your visit.
  • It is VERY IMPORTANT that you read the packet in its entirety before taking your students to the Zoo. The packet contains all of the information you will need to know about your trip and it may answer some of your questions. Please make copies of the cards in the packet to give to appropriate personnel (i.e., bus drivers, chaperones, etc.)

ARRIVALS:

  • Upon arriving at the Zoo, the group leader must first check in at the ticket booth.  Once the transaction is complete, the entire school group must enter at one time.   Any parents meeting a school group a the Zoo will be charged the full admission price ($6.50) unless they enter with, and are paid for, by the group leader.  One single payment must be made for the entire group and NO others will be accepted.  This payment should be made with a check, money order, or credit card to ensure an efficient and timely admission process.
  • A supervisor or chaperone must accompany children at ALL times.
  • If your group visits the gift shop, there must be one adult for every five children, there must be one adult in the store actively supervising them.
 

SUPERVISON AND FREE CHAPERONES:

Required supervision ratios are as follows:
Children ages 4 and younger: 1 adult for every 4 youth
Children ages 5 and older: 1 adult for every 7 youth
Special children or adults needing physical assistance: 1 for each individual needing assistance

ADMISSION RATES:

  • There must be 20 paying customers on the day of the visit for groups to qualify for the reduced group rate admission. (Children under 3 are not counted as paying customers.)
  • Groups of fewer than 20 paying customers or groups without reservations must pay full admission.
  • A school is defined as a group of students from a New York State accredited learning institution, public or private school, grades K-12.
