Red Panda

Though their names are similar, the red panda and giant panda are only very distantly related by a common ancestor that can be traced back to tens of millions of years ago. Both species were identified as pandas as the word “panda” means “bamboo eater,” and bamboo is a primary part of both the red panda’s and the giant panda’s diet.

Edventure Academy

Edventure Academy provides a unique opportunity for you and your child to learn more about the animals at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo! Each session is specifically designed for the age group indicated and may include such experiences as a craft, snack, biofact (skulls, fur, feathers, etc.) presentation, zoo tour and an animal encounter or keeper talk.

Sand Boa

A parent or guardian is required to attend preschool sessions with their child; parents are optional for sessions for kids ages 6-10. Class size is limited to ensure that your child has the most educational and fun experience we can offer!

Pre-registration is required for all sessions; a minimum number of registrants is required to run all Edventure
Academy programming.

Fees:

  • Members: $18 per child/one adult pair per session
  • Non-members: $23 per child/one adult pair per session
  • $12 for each additional child or adult (member or non) in the same session

Native Neighbors

Animals are all around us, even in our backyards! Let's explore the wonderful animals that we share a home with. From foxes to otters to turtles, our neighbors are wilder than we might imagine! Come check out some local fauna that call the zoo their home, and meet one up close!

Animal Grossology

Poop, throw-up and boogers! All gross things that animals excrete! Join us as we learn about these disgusting things that are a very important part of a zoo keeper's day. This class is complete with a craft and sloppy snack. Yuck!

EdVenture Academy Wild Beginnings


Want to try EdVenture Academy, but your child is too young?  Give the program a try with these programs tailored just for little ones, aged 12 months to 3 years.  Each themed class includes animal biofacts, nature-themed sensory play, a story and an opportunity to see an animal up close!  Young ones will explore with their senses as well as develop language and motor skills in the process during this early learning adventure.  Please note this class occurs entirely in the classroom.  You are welcome to tour the zoo after class as your admission is included with your class fee.

Twilight at the Zoo: Family Edition

Family Twilight: Survival of the Fittest

Survival is hard work! From avoiding becoming another animal's dinner to surviving extreme weather conditions, wild animals have a tough job. We will explore the smarts, strength, and skills animals need to survive by touring part of the zoo and meeting a savvy animal!

Consent and Waiver Policy

Every participant under the age of 18 without a parent or legal guardian on the premises during the education program must have a signed consent and waiver form on file with the education department. This form will be kept on file for one (1) year, so you only need to fill it out once. If your child's medical history, including food allergy or activity restrictions changes, please notify the education department to update your file at (315) 435-8511 x8559. Cancellation Policy

If your child is enrolled and you must cancel for any reason, your registration fee is nonrefundable unless a child on the wait list can fill the space. If there is no wait list for the session indicated, we cannot issue a refund. In the event the cancelled slot is filled, a 25% processing fee will be deducted from your refund. We will not issue rainchecks or transfers/credit.
