The blue poison dart frog was first discovered in 1968. It is a relic species living in a few isolated patches of relic rainforest habitat. Blue poison dart frogs can release toxins from the skin that are distasteful and potentially lethal to predators.

Edventure Academy


Edventure Academy provides a unique opportunity for you and your child to learn more about the animals at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo! Each session is specifically designed for the age group indicated and includes a craft, snack, biofact (skulls, fur, feathers, etc.) presentation, a zoo tour, and may include an animal encounter or keeper talk.

Edventure Academy

A parent or guardian is required to attend preschool sessions with their child; parents are optional for 6-9 year old sessions. Class size is limited to ensure that your child has the most educational and fun experience we can offer! Please help us by leaving toddlers and infants at home. Pre-registration is required for all sessions; a minimum number of registrants is required to run all Edventure Academy programming.


  • Members: $18 per child/one adult pair per session
  • Non-members: $23 per child/one adult pair per session
  • $12 for each additional child or adult (member or non) in the same session

Monkey's and More!            

Join us as we explore our zoo's most social animals, from magnificent monkeys to leapin' lemurs, and learn about the training and enrichment that the zookeepers do with them every day! We'll tour the social animal area of the zoo, meet a keeper or two, make a swingin' craft, and have a monkey themed snack! If you love monkeys, you'll go bananas over this class!

Raptor's Delight!            

Sharpen your beaks, flex your talons, and join us for this high flyin' class as we learn all about the birds of prey that call our zoo home! We'll tour the zoo, make a raptor-riffic craft, and meet some amazing birds up close and personal-you won't want to miss it!

From snow leopards to red pandas, many animals call the Himalayas their home. Whether they're leaping from cliff tops or climbing up trees these amazing creatures are on top of the world! Join us as we explore this mysterious mountain habitat and discover all of the stealthy creatures who live there.

Twilight at the Zoo: Family Edition! Summer Solstice!

Friday June 19, 2015 from 6:30-8pm

Sprinklers, lawn mowers, and long sunny days can mean only one thing- summer's back! Join us as we celebrate the longest day of the year right here at the zoo! This evening event is fun for the whole family. Guests will enjoy a sunset stroll along the Wildlife Trails led by a zoo educator, create a fabulous craft, and enjoy a solstice-inspired snack!

Tuition per session
Members: $20 per child or child/adult pair
Non-members: $25 per child or child/adult pair

Consent and Waiver Policy

Every participant under the age of 18 without a parent or legal guardian on the premises during the education program must have a signed consent and waiver form on file with the education department. This form will be kept on file for one (1) year, so you only need to fill it out once. If your child's medical history, including food allergy or activity restrictions changes, please notify the education department to update your file at 435-8511 ext. 124. Cancellation Policy

If your child is enrolled and you must cancel for any reason, your registration fee is nonrefundable unless a child on the wait list can fill the space. If there is no wait list for the session indicated, we cannot issue a refund. In the event the cancelled slot is filled, a 25% processing fee will be deducted from your refund. We will not issue rainchecks or transfers/credit.
