Happy 40th Birthday, Siri!
Please help us celebrate this milestone birthday with one of our zoo's ambassadors! |
The Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park will be celebrating elephants during the annual Asian Elephant Extravaganza on August 18 . This event gives zoo-goers an opportunity to honor the Asian elephant collection, which includes Indy, Siri, Romani and Kirina.
Asian elephants are intelligent and extremely social animals. They are also endangered. With less than 40,000 in the wild, management and breeding of Asian elephants in captivity is essential to their survival. The Rosamond Gifford Zoo has been in cooperation with the Association of Zoos and Aquarium Asian elephant Species Survival Plan since 1981.
This Year Only!
Join us for a clebration of our elephants and a party in honor of Siri's 40th birthday. We'll be singing "Happpy Birthday" to Siri, watching the elephants enjoy a piñata and serving them a special elephant birthday cake. Guests will have the chance to sign a birthday card to commemorate the event.
What to Expect
A demonstration of ceremonial elephant face painting, a tradition in Asian cultures, will begin the days’ activities. Visitors will be able to guess an elephant’s weight and even see how an elephant gets a pedicure! Crafts and biofact stations will also be available for families to enjoy and learn more about Asian elephants and their endangered status. Elephant demonstrations will take place displaying the amazing strength and skill of these large mammals.
This event if free with regular zoo admission of $6.50 for adults, $4.50 for seniors age 62+ and students 16-21 with ID, and $4.00 for children aged 3-15. Children two and under are free.
Courtesy of Total Care, the first 1,000 children will receive FREE admission to Asian Elephant Extravaganza!
