Catering at the Zoo

12th Annual Photo Contest:
January 2-31, 2017

Each January, the zoo invites photographers of all abilities, ages 5 and up, to take part in a photo contest. Winning photos appear in the spring issue of our member publication MyZoo Magazine, on the zoo's website and social media, and are displayed to the public for one year in the zoo's gift shop windows.

  • Complimentary admission is available to participants who show their camera at the ticket booth. Please note: mobile devices will not be accepted as cameras for this purpose. There is a limit of one entrant per household or group per day, to enter the zoo free of charge.
  • Photographers must follow zoo rules, stay on paths and obey posted signs. Flash is prohibited where indicated.
  • Photos MUST be taken at the zoo during the contest period of January 2-31, 2017.
  • Entries are due by 4 p.m. on February 1, 2017. Late entries will not be accepted. Each person is limited to 2 final entries.

  • The online entry form MUST be submitted in order to enter the contest. THE CONTEST ENTRY PERIOD IS NOW CLOSED.

  • Photo entries must be e-mailed to photocontest@rosamondgiffordzoo.org.
  • Photos must be sent as a JPEG attachment and labeled with animal/species, followed by entrant's name. (Lion_JaneSmith)
  • Minor digital enhancements (cropping, contrast, etc.) are permitted. Images that have been significantly modified will be disqualified.
  • Photos with date marks, watermarks, logos, signatures or copyright notices will be disqualified.
  • Judging will take place in February 2017. Winners will be contacted via the email they provided on the entry form by mid-February.
  • Awards ceremony is Friday, February 24 at 3 p.m. at the zoo. All contestants are welcome and encouraged to attend. Contestants need not be present to win.
