The primary goal of the Sales Manager position is to convert catering leads into forever clients, using lead generation, and traditional and non-traditional sales techniques. The Catering Sales Manager will make connections with prospective clients, guide tours of the facility, present package options, follow-up on sales calls, book events, and drive revenue, while embodying the culture of Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. A Catering Sales Manager may also assist in the execution of events as need dictates and time allows. All Catering Sales Managers will also be tasked with administrative responsibilities that will vary from week to week.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Conduct private and group sales tours, both in person and virtual, for; Social, Corporate, Non-Profit, and Wedding prospective clients.

· Book events, developing agreements and deposit requests, converting 50% of firsts to booked events.

· Work to achieve personal and team sales goals, consistently and proactively.

· Curate leads via phone, email, in person, and referrals, and follow all lead management protocols.

· Suggest the latest industry-trend solutions to support bookings and guest requests.

· Schedule and conduct final visits; inventory and detail final arrangements for the operations team to follow.

· Manage seamless transition of events to Catering Coordinators and Catering Ops Team.

· Provide accurate and timely information to clients, vendors, management, and planners.

· Oversees the preparation and modification of event contracts for all clients.

· Coordinates with Executive Chef for event menu planning and execution.

· Participate in industry trade shows and marketing events.

· Manage existing accounts for client re-soliciting in order to capture future bookings.

· Develop and maintain relationships with area non-food vendors.

· Work to resolve any guest complaints with urgency.

· Foster a healthy working environment based on mutual respect and professionalism.

· Attend and participate in weekly BEO meetings with Catering team.

· Complete daily, weekly, and monthly assigned reporting.


· 3-5 years in a Hospitality Management role, preferably a Sales position.

· Excellent customer service.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills. Requires ability to read and comprehend a variety of documents, including sales contracts, vendor agreements, sales reports, etc.; Requires the ability to prepare reports, schedules, memos, contracts, etc. with proper format, content, punctuation, grammar, and spelling using all parts of speech; Requires the ability to speak with others with poise, appropriate decorum, voice control and confidence.

The Friends of The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is looking to hire an experienced philanthropy professional with a passion for nonprofit excellence. The Director of Philanthropy will create, execute, and evaluate all philanthropy strategies with a donor-centered philosophy to ensure a diverse and sustainable revenue portfolio to support The Rosamond Gifford Zoo’s mission. They will also create and effectively manage the organization’s annual communications plan to build a consistent brand and to develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders. The right candidate must be passionate about conservation, education, and the community around them.


  • Cultivate, solicit, acknowledge and steward annual, major, and planned gifts. Applicant must have a demonstrated track record of closing gifts of over $25,000.
  • Develop philanthropy strategies, engagement goals and write departmental strategic plans, in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Enhance a planned giving program while researching, identifying and connecting with planned giving prospects.
  • Enhance Donor Database, focusing on donors of varying Socio-economic backgrounds to broaden the understanding of donor giving, connect with our community and increase opportunities for donors to invest in Friends of the Zoo.
  • Organize and facilitate donor request meetings.
  • Assist with developing new ideas, marketing strategies and system changes that strengthen storytelling.
  • Write and edit grant proposals, understand donor giving and research grant opportunities, monitor grant management process.
  • Provide support to Friends of the Zoo board and committee.
  • Manage reporting and synthesizing of data to make well informed decisions regarding annual engagement goals and strategies.
  • Manage a portfolio of donors which includes cultivating relationships, soliciting for gifts and stewardship.


  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least five (5) years fundraising experience.
  • Comfort with a wide range of philanthropic work, including solicitation and stewardship of individual, foundation, and corporate donors.
  • A successful track record in executing on strategy, setting priorities, managing multiple projects, and working effectively under pressure to achieve individual and organizational goals.
  • Proven success in writing and securing grants.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, reliable, and flexible.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to listen to and balance, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience managing and tracking donor relations through software system.
  • A team player with a flexible, collaborative, and creative approach.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, WordPress, donor databases (current system Altru), web-based applications, and use of the internet for research required.

Details: The Public Relations and Content Manager is responsible for writing engaging content for the zoo website, blogs, newsletters, and promotional materials. This position handles media inquiries and prepares news releases that accurately promote the zoo and its mission. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Ensures written communications are consistent and aligned with the brand and mission the Rosamond Gifford Zoo and the Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo.
  • Drafts compelling and engaging written materials and/or content for a variety of communication vehicles such as press releases, opportunities for coverage and media-related requests, presentations, blogs, zoo websites and print publications such as the annual report, member magazine and brochures. Writes, coordinates and proofs promotional copy and media materials; research information on featured animals, zoo programs and initiatives as needed.
  • Under the supervision of the Marketing and Communications Director, creates and updates an annual communications calendar to include press releases and opportunities for coverage, education programming and events. Prioritizes communications activities with year-round perspective. Consults with Marketing and Communications to ensure strategies, meet goals and messaging priorities.
  • Collaborates with all departments including Development, Education, Animal Collection Managers and Curator, to identify new storytelling topics and messaging opportunities for external communications. Consults with Marketing, Zoo and Friends leadership to ensure these meet organizational goals and messaging.
  • Assists with internal communications to keep staff informed; reviews and assists departments with external constituent communications to ensure accuracy.
  • Works with the Marketing team, to review, update and create content for the zoo’s websites.
  • Maintains accurate, current, and functional media contact list.  Develops and maintains good relations with key players in print, radio, TV and online media. Upon County sign-off takes direction about how and when to communicate to the media in a timely and positive way. Coordinates scheduling of the Zoo Director to be the public spokesperson for the Zoo and the Friends Executive Director to be the public spokesperson for the Friends.
  • In collaboration with the Marketing team, coordinates and manages media-related events (e.g. press conferences), acting as media contact and escorting the media while onsite
  • Tracks, collects, and reports digital news, newspaper and magazine articles promoting the zoo.

Desired Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism or Communications, with a minimum of five years of public relations or communication experience, or any equivalent combination, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (CMS).

Skills / Knowledge Required:

  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading skills are essential, including the ability to present concepts verbally.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Must be able to handle interruptions and juggle day-to-day activities.
