Join us for our 2026 Summer Camp and be part of the Golden Days of Summer as a 1:1 Aide, supporting campers who may need a little extra help throughout the day. As a 1:1 Aide, you’ll assist campers with daily activities such as completing STEM challenges and crafts, navigating the zoo during tours, building positive relationships with peers, and supporting behavior expectations. You’ll play an important role in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging camp experience while spending your summer surrounded by wildlife and learning.
Responsibilities:
▪ Follow the camper’s IEP/504/Life Plan or any legal document that specifies the needs and accommodation of the campers.
▪ Remain attentive and engaged with their assigned camper at all times and should not use their phones while on duty.
▪ Continuously be interacting with the camper and encourage them to try and follow along with the activities that are being presented to them as a group.
▪ Notice when the camper is showing signs of dysregulation and introduce strategies or redirect the camper to help the camper regulate: whether it is bringing them to the calm down area in the classroom, playing with them, creating a craft, or reading to them, etc.
▪ Pursue the camper if they are showing unsafe behaviors such as jumping fences or running away from their group. The aide must use de-escalation strategies, up to and including restraint, to stop risky behavior.
▪ Inform camp counselor or zoo camp coordinator/director of camper's day; whether positive or negative so camp counselor can fill out daily sheet for parents.
▪ Record behavioral documentations if needed for camper to succeed in camp.
▪ Must be in closed toed shoes at all times and appropriate clothing as stated in Zoo Camp Instructor Manual.
Required Training and Experience:
▪ Must be over 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
▪ Has worked previously in an education setting (school, day care, etc.).
▪ Has previously worked with children that have a disability or diverse needs.
▪ Experience working with both teachers/counselors/volunteers and underserved populations.
▪ Ability to be self-directed, flexible, work as a team player, achieve established goals, and maintain accurate records if needed.
Desired Training and Experience:
• Has a high school diploma or GED and have Passed the New York State Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills (NYSATAS) test.
• Completed workshops such as: Child Abuse Identification, School Violence Prevention and Intervention and Dignity for All Students Act (DASA).
• Have applied with NYSED Teach System for 1:1 aide certification.

Rate of pay: $18/hr

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates the ability to complete Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) in a timely, neat, and organized manner to the specifications of each dish and the needs of the guests
- Prep proteins, chop, slice, dice, peel, and portion fruits and vegetables, following portion control, food quality, and safe food handling standards
- Safely operate and sanitize all kitchen equipment
- Wear PPE throughout shift (which may include mask, gloves, hairnet/hat, apron, and non-slip shoes) to ensure safety
- Follows approved recipes while ensuring proper cooking techniques and the highest quality standards
- Understands the importance of controlling product costs by managing waste
- Seeks to provide a memorable experience in all guest interaction opportunities, culminating in the “Best Day Ever” for our guests
- High level quality control of all inventories, including food and kitchen equipment, ensuring that all product/inventory are properly rotated
- Demonstrates the ability to keep workstation organized and produces required quantity according to the demands of the BEO
- Identifies, utilizes, and builds knowledge base of specific culinary terms (i.e. grilling, dicing, etc.)
- Practices “clean as you go” habits, and leaves the workspace clean, organized, and sanitized
- Adheres to all CATZ and Health Department Guidelines
- Strong communication with Supervisor for approval to leave assigned area for breaks, any guest service concerns, broken equipment, or problems with the kitchen areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Must take pride in the workspace and thrive in a team environment
- Must have strong organizational skills
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs, push, pull, stock, and stand for long hours
- Must be safety oriented
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must be able to speak and read English
- Previous catering or food service experience preferred
