EXHIBITS
Over 1300 animals representing nearly 300 species call the Rosamond Gifford Zoo home. Each and every one, from the smallest snail to the mighty and massive Asian elephant, lives in a habitat specifically designed to mimic the natural environment of the species. These designs encourage animals to engage in their natural, species-specific behaviors. As an AZA-accredited zoo, we pride ourselves in providing the best care possible to all of our animals. Part of that care includes ensuring that animals have autonomous choices as to where they’d like to spend each day, whether that be in their viewable habitats, private holding areas, or even hiding in plain sight. That means on any given day, you might not see every animal during your visit. If any animal you’d like to see is not viewable, we recommend stopping by the habitat multiple times during your visit to see if the animal has changed locations to be more visible. About 60% of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo resides within our indoor spaces. The outdoor sections of zoo remain open throughout the winter. Animals who live within the outdoor spaces of the zoo tolerate our CNY winter well. During extremely inclement weather, some animals with outdoor habitats may not be viewable to ensure their health and safety.
