Zoo Safari Tour

Are you a classroom teacher or group leader looking to make the most out of your field trip to the zoo? Try a Zoo Safari!

Zoo Safari on-site educational programs engage participants in hands-on learning during their field trip to the zoo. Zoo educators work with classroom teachers or group leaders to tailor an educational program that meets the groups’ needs. Participants visit the zoo’s classroom where learning will be reinforced through a 60-minute presentation using hands on activities, animal artifacts and may also include a live animal encounter.

Want to know more about Zoo Safari?

Zoo Safari offers programs on many topics, including animal adaptations, habitats and endangered species. Our programs are designed for specified age groups and grades according to the New York State and Next Generation Learning Standards. We have programs available for ages 3 through adult. Please see our curriculum list above for specific program details. Also, please note that most program themes can be adapted to suit both older, younger and mixed age groups. We can also design a program to your specific topic needs or on subject matter not included on our curriculum list. Simply mention your request when you reserve your Zoo Safari program, and we'll do our best to accommodate your needs. Please allow a minimum of four weeks for such requests.

Zoo Safari is limited to 30 participants (chaperones included). We are happy to conduct consecutive programs for groups over 30.

Zoo Safari programs are available 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., throughout the school year (not offered in July and August). Please email us and our Zoo Safari Coordinator will be in touch shortly!

Each program lasts approximately 45-60 minutes. Groups are encouraged to tour the zoo after the completion of the program. Program price includes zoo admission.

$150 per group up to 30 participants. We request that payment be made in full two weeks in advance.

We request that each program is booked a minimum of two weeks in advance. That being said, we recommend that you reserve your program as far in advance as possible as dates book quickly. Please email us and our Zoo Safari Coordinator will be in touch shortly. Please note, spring is the busiest time and can book up to one year in advance.

The Education Department at the zoo has a collection of small animals that are specifically chosen for virtual outreach programming. The types of animals we may use depend on the topic of the program and animal availability. Due to zoo protocol regarding animal care and scheduling, we are unable to make any guarantees on which types of animals are included in a program. However, we will strive to provide a variety of animals suitable for your group.

Generally, Zoo Safari will present approximately 3 animals during your program. Our programs are designed to give the members of your group the chance to spend time learning about these amazing creatures and see animals up close.

The HoneyBee Café has the perfect lunch solution for groups visiting the zoo. Check our café group page for more catering information.
